TKS-C Container Solution

A completely integrated solution: the container, which includes metering and monitoring components as well as communications infrastructure. The single source solution ensures smooth PV power plant operations, in close cooperation with the grid operator. The container station comprises a pair of Protect PV.250, PV.500 or PV.630 solar inverters along with a medium-voltage transformer and switchgear.

- Project-related design

Each container is designed as a two-room station. The base is made of waterproof concrete with several entry points for cables. Inside the container, the inverter station and power stack are separated from the control cabinets to ensure that the inverters do not heat up the sensitive electronic parts. Also this solution prevents external dust particles from entering the interior of the container. The air for cooling the inverter is drawn in from the outside, filtered and routed past the heat sinks via a duct system. It is then drawn back outside before it enters the container chamber. The air for cooling the container is drawn from a different suction inlet in order to dissipate the low power loss of the electronic units.

The transformer is installed in a separate oil-tight room, which is designed to prevent oil from seeping out even in the event of a serious transformer fault. During an intensive “burn-in” test, AEG PS demonstrated the robustness of its container solution. Since the containers are installed in regions in which daytime temperatures are significantly higher than in Germany, they were tested under operating conditions continuously for two days in a special climatized tent at an ambient temperature of 57°C – without being cooled at night. Despite these extreme conditions, the equipment ran smoothly with only minimal de-rating of output. The container weighs around 28 tons, so care should be taken during transport and installation. The stability of this design provides further advantages. The containers can be used in harsh environments without interruption, and technicians can work inside the container under any climatic conditions.
