The production of hydrogen via electrolysis is known for many years as an industrial application. By connecting a DC power source to two electrodes, which are placed in water, the electrolysis process starts. Hydrogen and oxygen are deposited on the surface of the electrodes. The significant increase of available renewable energies (e.g. wind and solar) focuses on the importance of hydrogen as a clean and appropriate energy-storage medium – thereby hydrogen electrolysis becomes a focus of interest, too.
