Customized On-Board Power Supplies for Locomotives from Bombardier

Bombardier Transportation, a global leader in rail technology, has won a framework contract from Deutsche Bahn for up to 450 locomotives.

For this project, AEG PS developed a solution specifically for Bombardier, based around its existing battery chargers, inverters and DC/DC converters. One solution includes three modules each providing 20A. Redundancy and in-built battery management guarantee continuous operation even after an internal failure, therefore ensuring the highest levels of reliability.

Electric locomotives are a challenging environment for on-board battery chargers, converters and inverters, with a wide ambient temperature range, harsh conditions in terms of shock and vibration, and extremely wide input voltage and frequency ranges. AEG PS ensures that its components are manufactured with high-grade components to withstand these challenges and deliver excellent reliability.

This new deal extends the long relationship between AEG PS and Bombardier.

AEG PS has supplied Bombardier with more than 12,000 modules over the last 15 years for its locomotive platforms, and the AEG PS products have achieved high levels of reliability in service.
