White Paper
Industrial companies are often characterized by high consumption of electrical and thermal energy. In Germany, for such large-scale consumers, a specific electrical power monitoring is implemented for connection to the supply grid. Peak of consumptions are also measured for those consumers and they are charged both on their consumptions and on specific costs generated by the peak of demand they create.. Energy storage can help reshaping consumption curves of those large-scale consumers. The system is then designed to take the peaks into account and optimizes operational costs of energy. This paper presents a storage operating strategy, which is designed with respect to these special features of "industrial microgrids" to provide a high reduction of the total supply costs of the company. The methodology used is based on the theory of Model Predictive Control and offers a high degree of flexibility and expandability.
